Online exercise classes for pregnant women and new mams

Active Northumberland is running a series of online exercise classes designed specifically to help new mums and pregnant women to keep fit safely, from the comfort of their own home.

The new online exercise classes include a range of sessions for pre and postnatal ladies led by Rachel RafiefarAntenatal Educator and Chair of The Guild of Pregnancy and Postnatal Exercise Teachers. These include Mama’s Corestability, a 6 week course for postnatal ladies as well a variety of classes for mums-to-be such as Mama’s Antenatal Pilates, Mama’s Yoga and an Antenatal Birth Preparation course.

In addition, Mams on the Move are running a weekly timetable of free, shorter half hour sessions for postnatal ladies during lockdown on their Mams on the Move Facebook Page. These include HIITCircuits, Legs, Bums and Tums and Total Tone and will be delivered by fully qualified and experienced Active Northumberland instructors.

The classes are all part of the Mams on the Move initiative which aims to support women to build low-cost activity into their existing routine, at times convenient to them.

Active Northumberland Wellbeing Coordinator Jemma Burt explains:
The lockdown and concerns around the pandemic are a worrying time for everyone, but especially so if you are pregnant or new mam.

We know many are feeling isolated and anxious as they have not been able to get out and about as much, or have the usual support network of friends and family to visit.

We have taken our Mams on the Move classes online and have a great community of friendly mams who are all in a similar situation and so they get great strength and support from each other.
